What was your dream job when you were eight years old?

Driving scrapers and bulldozers like my Dad – back in the days before strong WHS laws he used to take me to worksites on Saturdays and he sometimes allowed me to ride in the machine cabins with him.

He and his crew worked harder than anyone else I’ve ever met.  I was so lucky to have options to study that my parents didn’t have.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from starting your own business?

There is ‘good enough’, and then there is ‘great’. It’s impossible to get everything right straight away, so its best to start with a Strategic Plan that keeps you heading in the right direction and progressively make improvements when and where you can, with the right help along the way. And then just keep going – you will get there!

What do you like most about how the Advisory Collective operates?

Many business consultants that I’ve met are motivated by hunger for money, prestige or influence – sometimes all three. All we wanted to do when we started the Collective was to do great work at a fair price, to help ‘level the playing field’ for small and medium sized businesses in Australia.  We’ve been able to do that through some very challenging times, and now we’ve expanded the Collective by engaging members who share our values, and that we love working with.
